Emily, a young adult with cystic fibrosis, highlights the amazing therapeutic benefit that surfing has for those with this disease.

In Loving Memory

EMILY HAAGER
February 14, 1983 - May 1, 2010

On Saturday night, May 1st, Emily peacefully went to a place without CF, a place where she can run, surf and breathe without worry. She lived her life exuding love and grace, impacting everyone who ever met her. As Ambassador for Pipeline to a Cure, Emily seemed to blaze her own path with an energy and enthusiasm all her own. In response to the loss of this dynamic young woman to cystic fibrosis at the age of 27, Pipeline to a Cure 2010 will be dedicated to her memory.

Pipeline to a Cure Events Raises More than $750,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

To surfers around the world, surfing brings peace-of-mind, a connection to the ocean, a oneness with nature.  To legendary watermen Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama, surfing recently has brought new meaning to their lives.

When the duo learned that surfing led to a treatment for cystic fibrosis (CF), they joined and soon became leaders within the surfing community to help raise funds for the disease that robs children and young adults of their youth, their health and eventually their lives before most of them reach their late 30s.  In 2008, Laird and Dave enthusiastically became honorary chairmen of a very special fundraiser – "Pipeline to a Cure."

Together with longtime sponsors BJ's Restaurants, LAcarGUY, Coast Benefit Consultants, Wahoo's Fish Taco, and American Airlines, CFF has raised more than $750,000 in just two short years.  With no public funding, this significant amount of money from the private sector and individuals provides a tremendous and critical lifeline to the more than 70,000 children around the world with CF.

Other surfers lending their support for the CF cause included Jeff Clark, Mickey Munoz, Jericho Poppler, Gavin Beschen, Kala Alexander, Michael Ho, Julian Wilson, Lisa Anderson, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Travis Mellem.

Celebrities who attended include Gabrielle Reece, Eva LaRue (CSI: Miami), Tia Carrere, Tim Salmon (formerly with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), Tom Shadyac (director) and performers Chad Petree, Jeremy Dawson, Sisely Treasure, Mikey Martin of Shiny Toy Guns and Kai Kalama and Ryan Kalama of Off White.

We are pleased to announce that Saturday, July 31st, 2010 will mark the 3rd Annual Pipeline to a Cure Gala honoring baseball legend Tim Salmon.

Guests will enjoy an evening of celebrity entertainment, fabulous food and spectacular silent and live auctions, all while mingling with their favorite surfing celebrities.
